WHAT IS JAW SPLITMENT?

The jaw consists of 2 parts, consisting of the lower (mandible) and upper (maxilla) jaw bones. As everyone knows, there are teeth on the jaw bones. The symptoms of lower jaw misalignment are quite obvious and immediately noticeable. If the jaw structure is damaged, it becomes difficult to perform eating and biting functions properly. Curious questions such as what is chin crookedness or how chin correction surgery is performed are frequently asked.

Some genetic problems or developmental disorders cause the jaw to be crooked. Jaw misalignment can often cause people to have eating problems, breathing problems, or speech problems. In some cases, it is possible to correct jaw curvatures with physical therapy. However, if the jaw disorder has reached a very serious point, it may be necessary to undergo jaw structure correction surgery to have it treated. Individuals with chin crookedness show some symptoms. Generally; It creates pain in the temples, jaw clenching, clenching, jaw stiffness, jaw not opening, pain in the shoulders and back, and a feeling of congestion in the ear.

In order for the jaw to function as it should, functionally and structurally, the bones and muscle structures in the jaw must work harmoniously. Failure of even one of these to perform its duty properly will cause the entire system to fail. The main factors that cause deterioration of the jaw structure are;

  1. Trauma: The jaw structure may be damaged after an accident, fall or injury. Trauma can cause damage to the jaw and dislocation of the jaw joints. If the post-traumatic damage is mild, the problem may resolve on its own.
  2. Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Diseases: Temporomandibular joint, or in other words, jaw joint problems are a frequently encountered event in our society. Sometimes there may be no underlying cause for the development of TMJ diseases. But sometimes TMJ disease can also develop due to conditions such as stress, trauma and arthritis.
  3. Birth defects: Some people may have structural problems such as crooked chin or crooked chin that occurs during birth.

HOW IS IT TREATED?

Correcting the jaw structure will have many important and beneficial effects for the person. It is recommended that individuals with this condition immediately go to a physician and be examined. If the injuries are mild, they can be resolved with simple physical therapy. However, if injuries or disorders are serious, surgery may be needed to return the jaw structure to normal.
